A previous study (J Autoimmun. 2011 May;36(3-4):301-12. doi: 10.1016/j.jaut.2011.02.009 ) looked at many of the questions addressed in this paper, as well as addressing the author's speculation that PD-1 deficiency may promote LIP induced autoimmunity. Indeed, the study you refer to should have been cited by us, and this was an unintentional oversight.
