Since Topoisomerase II is the only enzyme capable of removing catenations from between sister chromatids, this provided a possible link between decatenation and chromatid separation.

In vitro, Top3 plus RecQ can also decatenate dsDNA circles. In vivo relevance not established but not disproved, either.

Still, when topo II is inhibited in vivo, a complete block of chromosome segregation occurs. Thus, no other protein/s seem to be able to efficiently decatenate sister strands in vivo.
