Competing Interests
All the co-authors (JW, BF, AN and SC) have received funding from GambleAware through their work at the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research. The Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research (2022-2027) is funded by GambleAware which is funded by voluntary donations from the gambling industry to build capacity in interdisciplinary gambling harms research. Governance procedures and due diligence provide safeguards to ensure the Hub’s independence from GambleAware and the gambling industry. Neither GambleAware nor the gambling industry have any input to the strategic, operational or research activities of the Hub. SC has also received research funding from the Gambling Commission Regulatory Settlement funds. This does not alter our adherence to PLOS ONE policies on sharing data and materials.
