NeuroInvestigations, Inc. is a pre-clinical contract research company specializing in testing the functional efficacy of potential CNS therapeutics in animal models. DWH is a coauthor of, but has no ownership of, USPTO patents 8008283, 7214711, and 6495601 on new chemical structures for prodrugs of loop diuretics, and on the uses of loop diuretics to treat CNS disorders. These patents were assigned to Neurotherapeutics Pharma, Inc. Chicago, IL (NTP), a privately owned startup company. DWH is a small shareholder (<<1%) of NTP. To DWH's knowledge, these patents are not being commercialized by NTP or anyone else. DWH received a research gift in 2005, from Cytoscan LLC, Seattle, WA USA, that was ultimately used to fund the research reported here. This does not alter the authors' adherence to all the PLoS ONE policies on sharing data and materials.
