Catherine Kyobutungi
Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi is the Executive Director of the African Population and Health Research Center and co-Director of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) based in Nairobi, Kenya. Catherine has a medical background and is a trained epidemiologist with research interests in Non-Communicable Diseases and Health Systems Strengthening. She has designed and tested service delivery models for resource-constrained settings such as slum settings and is a strong advocate for the societal benefit of research beyond traditional research outputs. At APHRC, she has strengthened approaches to policy engagement and advocacy to ensure timely and effective uptake of evidence in decision making. She has more than 140 publications and sits on multiple national and global expert advisory panels.
Manuela De Allegri
Manuela De Allegri has a diverse academic background in Sociology, Health Economics, and Public Health. She joined the Institute of Global Health at Heidelberg University in 2002 and was appointed Head of the Health Economics and Health Financing Research Group in March 2011. Manuela’s research spans a wide range of topics—from maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health to chronic non-communicable diseases, including mental health. More recently, her work has expanded to include research on climate change, exploring its effects on health systems and identifying strategies for system-level adaptation to protect population health. Applying a rigorous mixed-methods approach, Manuela integrates quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis across all her projects. A commitment to equity and social justice runs through every aspect of her work.
