New animal species

Likweli: A remarkable new species of Colobus monkey from the Lomami National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo

Hart and colleagues discover and describe a new African monkey species Colobus Congoensis in Democratic Republic of Congo, which are also called by the locals "likweli". These monkeys were initially sighted in 2008. living in high tree canopy, they can be recognized by a clear orange color patch around their mouths and noses.

Tree ring segmentation performance in highly disturbed trees using deep learning

Zambrano-Suárez and colleagues systematically evaluate the effectiveness of different deep-learning models for tree ring segmentation in increment cores taken from trees with disturbed growth conditions. The study achieves good performance whilst highlighting limits influenced by tissue alterations and image resolution.

Autobiographical memory of validating and invalidating consultations is associated with recall capacity for health information

Lee and colleagues find that patients who recall validating healthcare experiences demonstrate better recall of health-related messages. This suggests clinician-validation may play a role in supporting cognitive function for patients with chronic pain.

Mixed feelings: Unintended consequences of HIV outreach care in Zimbabwe

Noa Gluskinos and colleagues show that while decentralizing HIV care and expanding antiretroviral therapy (ART) outreach in rural Zimbabwe improves access to treatment, it can also create unintended challenges related to stigma, privacy concerns, and community dynamics, underscoring the need for HIV services that are both accessible and socially supportive.
