Jennifer A. Schrack

orcid.org/0000-0001-9244-9267

Jennifer Schrack is an epidemiologist who studies the intersection of movement and health in the context of late-life disability. She serves as MPI of the National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), which aims to understand late-life trends in disability and functioning. In addition, she is PI or MPI on three NIH-funded projects investigating the intersection of movement, mobility, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Collectively, her work focuses on how changes in movement with aging including speed, amount, and patterns of movement relate to changes in physical and cognitive functioning in later life, leveraging novel measurement and analytic tools. Her findings aim to improve the lives of older adults by enabling earlier detection of adverse health outcomes, when intervention and treatment are most likely to be effective.

Sara Hägg leads a research group at the Karolinska Institutet specializing in genetic and molecular epidemiology of aging and is recognized as a global leader in the field of human aging. Her work focuses on identifying biomarkers that reflect biological aging in population-based cohorts, and she investigates longitudinal associations with age-related traits and pharmacological interventions using causal inference methods—an area in which she has published extensively. She serves as Principal Investigator for several major research projects funded by organizations such as the Swedish Research Council and the U.S. National Institute on Aging.
