Complimentary research required.

Posted by Ian_Robinson on 26 Aug 2014 at 00:27 GMT

The first mind to mind communications via the internet demonstrates preliminary work into a “Social Operating System” is required. A non-profit foundation should begin now to develop pseudo code exploring the potential of a self organizing techno-meritocracy and spark debate on how it would work. Goals, priorities, tasks, and roles could all be determined by collective subconscious consensus. Anyone interesting in working on this initiative or with suggestions of individuals or organizations well placed, please reply or contact me with details.

This sounds like precisely the same concept mentioned by J.C. Denton in the Eidos' game Deus Ex Invisible War. A construct referred to as the Helios AI which was within the game's canon to be used as a conduit for automated democracy, wherein the human population would be connected to it and their opinions/views would be autonomously collected to dictate the most agreed upon course of action for governing the population. I strongly agree with you on the idea of doing complimentary research, and am interested in working on this initiative. The possibilities of B2B communications are limitless not only in communication but in human-computer interactions. I can see a point in time where a user could pluck the very ideas and thoughts from their mind and convert it into reality through a computer.

TechnoMeritocracy

Thank you for your interest Asrien.

I had not considered the military aspect of the idea. Thanks! Indeed it should be included at the forefront of any discussion on the topic!

Agreed that this will seamlessly integrate with the internet of things. Universally connected objects would simply be a subconscious extension of our collective presence, and performing an action or service would be akin to currently taking a drink of water.

However, It was the potential business applications that first prompted me to consider the magnitude of potential risks. If a Social Operating System is left to be developed unimpeded by predetermined ethical guidelines, driven only by market forces. A system developed in a corporatocracy could easily make consumption the priority...

I consider the full scope of the positive potential for a Techno-Meritocracy currently inconceivable, and the clear potential existential risk socially horrifying considering the abundance of currently dysfunctional governmental systems heavily influenced, overwhelmingly in some cases, by corporate and self interests.

With the pace of technological change drastically accelerating, I strongly feel there is little time to waste to begin work on this. I would like to identify suitable well established un-biased non-profit institutions to lobby for interest and a commitment for of the establishment of an internet advisory board or suitable working group that can draw expertise from a variety of relevant individuals and parties.

Best,
Ian Robinson.
