Feral Colonies - Higher Expression of Immune Genes

A few questions or points of clarification for the authors to consider.
1) The feral colonies were determined to have survived at least one winter at the locations chosen. What was the previous winter survival status of the managed colonies selected?
2) The samples were collected between June and September from both types of colonies. For the managed colonies what types of management practices, beyond general inspection and manipulation, had been performed by the beekeepers? (e.g. miticide usage, spring feeding, other medications, etc.)
3) Were the authors able to determine if any particular sub-species of honey bee dominated the feral populations?
