This is a first rate report! I think it is an important addition to literature on primates in general and chimpanzees in particular. This phenomena is widely spread enough for it to be of vital importance to those interest in feeding behavior and feeding ecology.

I congratulate the authors on a very thorough and convincing analysis of wood pulp chewing of Raphia fanifera as a source of sodium for chimpanzees. The introduction and discussion faithfully reflect and support the results.
