Reserve size?

Posted by tfinch on 31 Oct 2017 at 11:54 GMT

This is a really great piece of work - thanks & congratulations.

It's been frequently noted that one of the most concerning aspects of your study as that the declines are occurring in "nature reserves". I can't find any information, however, on the ""area"" of these reserves. Are they small fragments (e.g. <100ha) surrounded by agriculture, or larger blocks of semi-natural habitat?

If the cause of the decline has to do with agriculture, then I'd expect larger reserves to be less susceptible; if this isn't the cause then I suppose something more sinister might be to blame?

geographical datas for each location you will find here:
https://doi.org/10.1371/j...

I have transformed the geographical coordinates for using it in GoogleMaps (for example 51.397132 6.506266 ):

Some of the sampling sites are surrounded by organic farming.
The proportion of agricultural land around the samples decreased, see:

The duration of the collection days doubled 2006

This map show the center of the sampling areas:
http://www.geodienste.bfn...

The most popular ist the NSG Orbroich (NSG = Naturschutzgebiet = nature reserve area). Click in the green fields and the size of the NSG will pop up. Orbroich = 99.66 Hektar = 246 Acres.

change the scale an you will see all protected areas. Take the geo-datas of the sampling location and combine it.
