I'm sorry but this is just a shameless grab for media headlines. I doubt the authors' objectivity in pursuing this question. There is no clear scientific question advanced here, It is hard to read this as motivated by anything other than political ideology. Furthermore, it's bound to feed perceptions in the public and congress of liberal bias in academics. This article should not have been published and I have serious doubts about the integrity of the PLoS ONE peer-review and editorial process upon reading this. Full disclosure: I am a progressive liberal Democrat and voted in a recent Democratic primary
