Comparing apples and oranges

Patients admitted to an anthroposophic hospital for pain rehabilitation during three weeks are not comparable to patients admitted to normal hospitals, including emergency care. The control group had more prescriptions of analgesics already before admittance, and the study completely misses that most analgesics are sold OTC without prescription from a doctor. Further proof that the cases and controls are very different can be seen in their co-diagnoses: the anthroposophic patients had fewer diagnoses of cancer but more of psychiatric diagnoses.

Competing interests declared: I am a proponent of science-based medicine and naturally skeptical towards anthroposophic medicine based om spiritual revelations by Rudolph Steiner.
