How about controlling for depressive symptoms or depression?

Interesting article! However, I can't but wonder, to what extent the effect is driven by difference in mood in the participants.

Depressed individuals show motor retardation. I would be convinced if depressive symptoms were taken into account as well. Otherwise, it is potentially a comparison of mortality between depressed individuals who show motor retardation versus healthy controls.
