I think that the editors should urgently provide a detailed explanation about the origin of this disaster. What happened with the Academic editor in charge of this manuscript? Did he read the paper, or at least the abstract? How is it possible that nobody at the editorial board noticed the problem before publication?
I have already notified PLOS ONE that I suspended my reviewing contribution to this journal until answers to these questions are publicly provided.
