Difference in insect reduction in England and Ireland

Posted by gclarke on 25 Oct 2017 at 10:38 GMT

I drive a lot. Usually over 2,000 miles a month. Most of my driving is in the UK - England and Wales. I've often been struck by the fact that even after a 4 or 5 hour drive, there are often NO insects stuck to my windscreen or the front of the car. However, I also do some driving in Ireland and recently drove between Waterford and Dublin. While the number of insect hits was far below what it was when I started driving 30 years ago, it was still noticeable. Is there a difference in land use or insecticide use between the two countries I wonder?
