Ocepechelon is a wonderfully odd Latest Cretaceous giant turtle. I added it to the matrix at www.reptileevolution.com/... and found that Ocepechelon did not nest with the short-snouted chelonioids, Chelonia and Santanachelys, but with the long-snouted soft-shelled turtles, Odontochelys and Trionyx. Bootstrap support values were very high. The authors did not include these taxa in their analysis. The authors note that dissassociated post-cranial material of the appropriate size from the same sedimentary horizon did not match chelonioid post-crania. They did not illustrate or picture the material, but perhaps comparisons could be made to soft-shelled turtle taxa to see if there is the possibility of a match, despite the great disparity in size.
