True self-deception?

Posted by spispi on 18 Sep 2014 at 12:07 GMT

If high self-estimates produce lower effort and lower effort results in lower actual grades this could account for the correlation between self-deception and deception found in the study irrespective of the median estimate by peers.

A high positive correlation between self-deception and deception could actually be compatible with a small negative correlation between self-estimate and peer estimate. The conclusion to this is that maybe the true student self-deception consists in deceiving yourself into believing, that you can pass with a good grade without putting some hard work into studying.
