Håkansson’s employment at Lund University, and parts of his research activities, are financially supported by AB Svenska Spel, which is the gambling operator owned entirely by the Swedish government, and he also has research funding obtained, in competition with other researchers, from the independent research council of Svenska Spel, as well as from the corresponding research council of Systembolaget, which is the alcohol monopoly of Sweden, owned by the Swedish government.
