Problems with fruit bat cell line used in this manuscript

Posted by stepbecker on 06 May 2011 at 18:49 GMT

We have learnt from another group using the same fruit bat cell line as used in this article (RO6E) that the cells were probably contaminated by another cell line (Vero, a monkey kidney cell widely used to propagate viruses). Our analyses confirmed a contamination with Vero cells occured before we started our study to characterize filovirus infection in RO6E cells. Investigation of early passages of the cell line indicated that pure passages are available and those are now used to repeat the experiments shown in the paper. First results indicate that the early passages are susceptible to productive Ebola virus infections.

Further results we will posted as soon as available.
