I personally found the article to validate my skepticism when reviewing claims for studies. Ironically, my conclusion correlates precisely to the author’s hypothesis. My bias toward skepticism is also factored on the sampling of studies that I am presented in my daily news feeds in the modern age of information. Claims for foods that are “proven” to improve health, claims for financial investments, even claims for or against climate change are all examples of headlines I see in our daily smart phone news feeds. With quantity of information there is also quantity of misinformation and there are plenty of claims in advertising and the news to make one wary of trusting any study. Realizing this, I also believe the author’s similar bias may have played a factor in analyzing these studies and perhaps the samples favor his hypothesis that studies are invalid.
