Competing Interests
MB was the lead investigator in the development of the CORE-OM, a measure used in the reported study. Funding was from the Mental Health Foundation during the period 1995–1998. MB has never received any financial payment in relation to the measure and holds no financial interest in it. In January 2016, the CORE-OM was placed under Creative Commons Agreement. NL is Chief Executive of Anxiety UK and Director of Mental Health for the Big Life group and Self Help (Services). DM is co-applicant on UK National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) grants, in addition to the OCTET trial, funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment funding stream. As part of the peer-review process for funding, peer-reviewers identified by the NIHR may provide comments on the design, analysis, and interpretation of results. However, ultimately all stages of the research are under the control of the research team. There is no influence on the writing of the paper or the decision to submit the results for publication. DM is additionally a board member of UK NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Yorkshire and Humberside Committee. This Board was not involved in any way in the funding of the OCTET trial.
