Another wonderful way to encourage continued high-school STEM research-

When you mentor high school students in the lab, please remember that they can enter an innovative project in local science fairs that lead up to the International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF). U.S. citizens who are high school seniors also can enter the Science Talent Search for a chance to win a trip to Washington, DC and to win scholarships. Both ISEF and the Science Talent Search are programs of Society for Science & the Public-- www.societyforscience.org .

Thank you for your comment -- this is a great point. Including a deliverable in the student's experience is something we discuss in the article, and participating in a local science fair is a great example of one. Especially motivating about the opportunity you mention is the ability for students to win scholarships. Thank you again for this valuable information!
