relevance AND content

Posted by Phyllis1 on 11 Aug 2012 at 13:56 GMT

I have been teaching a inquiries course for entering freshmen with AP credit in biology for the past 5 years. The topic is the human genome, methods, relevance and social consequences. We cover most of the topics raised as relevant issues by Dr. Redfield. The next course our students take is the sophomore level Genetics and Molecular Biology course. A few of my former students have claimed that they are bored with the sophomore level course, but only a few. The two faculty who teach the sophomore level Genetics courses both feel that a solid grounding in classical and population genetics is essential, though they are both concerned with keeping the course content relevant. That is the challenge-relevance AND content!
