Cross-sectional clustering.

Residues are segregated into different clusters based on how similar their connectivity is. Grey lines represent a high degree of correlation (i.e. high Rij value). For example, all residues in the green (lower left) cluster tend to be connected to the central (blue) cluster, but not necessarily to each other. Therefore they are grouped together. But while green, red (lower right), and purple (top) clusters tend to be connected to the central cluster, their connectivities are dissimilar enough from each other that they are not grouped together.
