Transcriptomic Analysis of the Developing and Adult Mouse Cochlear Sensory Epithelia
Figure 1
A schematic summary of the postnatal day-3 and adult cochlear dissection protocol.
Cochleae were extracted from P3 and adult mouse inner ears. The otic capsule, the modiolus, the spiral ligament, the stria vascularis and the Reissner’s membrane were removed. The tectorial membrane was partially removed from the surface of the epithelia. The cochlear sensory epithelia (CSE) were collected for transcriptomic analysis. Cross-sections depict cell subtypes included in cell preparations harvested from P3 and adult CSE. All samples are mostly comprised of tissue from the three cochlear turns. Scheme is not to scale. IHC: inner hair cells; OHC: outer hair cells; HeC: Hensen cells; BC: border cells; IPC: inner phalengeal cells; PC: pillar cells; DC: Deiter’s cells; BM: basilar membrane; IDC: interdental cells; GER: greater epithelial ridge; LER: lesser epithelial ridge; ISC: inner sulcus cells.
