Domesticated / selected

Orange carrots are believed to have been domesticated from white cultivars in the 16th century

I do not think that the world "domesticated" is the most appropriate here. According to ref 53, orange and white carrots were selected separately from already domesticated carrots that were yellow. Carrot domestication did not occur in XVIth century Holland, but in Xth xentury central asia. At that time, domesticated carrots where purple or yellow.

No competing interests declared.
