Interesting and novel approach to human evolution

Posted by ErikiLund on 15 Oct 2008 at 11:33 GMT

This was one of the few manuscripts that I have handled as an Academic Editor where I felt really excited from start and where I learned a lot during the revision process. The major insight for me was that "coalition formation" and cooperation can arise as emergent properties of inter-individual competition, and hence human altruism (or strictly, speaking; mutualism) can evolve without invoking traditional explanations based on kin-selection or group-selection. I hope that this paper will stimulate more empirical research in this fascinating area.
