perception of time during a car accident

I could see the shattered windshield pieces of glass floating through the air and dodge between them. It seemed as if the glass was moving in slow motion. My perception does not appear to agree with the "falling and monitoring the wrist" experiment. Why?

In E.D. Eagleman's notes fear is also mentioned. My experiences were of complete calm, seeing the situation and telling my body what to do, how to respond as if I had all the time in the world to accomplish that. Once in a motorcycle accident and once in a car accident. Slow motion while of course it was happening in seconds. Gave time and space to save myself. I once read that parts of brain that are unused are motivated into action and respond in a higher frequency. Surely that has been investigated?
