In this paper the authors describe an interesting interaction between oep and the small GTPase Rasl11b. The interactions are quite complex, and no interpretation of the likely molecular or cellular mechanisms emerge. But the author reach the conclusion, well supported in this reviewer's view, that the oep function affected by Rasl11b is independent of the nodal pathway. That is an important insight.
The work is carefully executed, and I have no specific requests for changes. I believe that both Introduction and especially Discussion are too long. Readability of the paper would benefit from a substantial condensation of both sections.
