A better cutpoint for obesity with BMI is 24 for females and 28 for males.

Since previous research (e.g. ref.39) has shown that the nadir of all cause mortality is around BMI 24-28 for both men and women, it would seem unhelpful to label individuals in this BMI range "obese" with the consequent assumption that they should be treated in some way to "correct" their obesity.
