Blood glucose testing?

Posted by Radius on 15 Sep 2011 at 19:43 GMT

It is an extraordinary effort, truly.

Based on what I understand in the abstract, the unit could measure blood glucose levels, without the need for consumables, is that correct?

I have for some time toyed with various ideas about how to do just that, as I feel the test strips are ludicrously priced, especially for a near 40 year old technology, and I despise the thought of being the prey of the pharmaceutical industry, for the fault of having diabetes (type I).

Again, my highest praise.

We have not yet figured out a way to measure blood glucose levels without the need for consumables, but some other researchers who we know are working on that.

Our instrument, the CheapStat, has electronics that are similar to a standard glucose meter. A standard glucose meter could possibly be re-programmed to do much of what we have done. We have not yet tried plugging glucose test strips into the CheapStat, but we are interested in trying that.
