Elephants are endangered by train accidents too.

Another tragedy that often happens is Elephants being knocked down by night trains. Can the regular Elephant crossing points be identified and made"go slow" for trains?. In the words of an Engine Driver " the Elephants freeze in the glare of the trains headlamps and do not move" The result is a jarring impact which always knock the Elephants onto or off the track, where they suffer for hours and die a very painful death. Sometime more than one Elephant is caught in the tracks. The result is broken limbed, suffering Elephants are pitifully looked upon until they die. This has been taking place long enough. We must ensure Railway authorities with Wildlife Dept and others concerned authorities set up "Go slow" area known for Elephant crossing points and set up Minimum speeds which will enable Drivers to stop or blast their horns or do something to protect the lives and limbs of the precious Elephants. The engine drivers in the night runs should be adviced to be vigilant and trained to protect a national treasure. If the environmentalists concerned about frogs in England can set up special crossing tunnels for them under Highways and roads, surely we CAN DO something more than that for our Elephants.
