Have you tried other software?

Hello Authors,

Nice article. I was wondering if you have tried other photo identification software and, if so, did you have any success? My colleagues and I have had good success with Wild-ID (http://www.dartmouth.edu/...) on salamanders and I am interested in testing it (and other methods) on some lizard species as well. The I3S system appears to work well for some species, but having to trace spots for every photo would probably be a daunting task once you have 100's of images. A few I have heard of but haven't tried include:

My sincere apologies for the delayed reply. I have not tried Wild-ID software yet, but one of my friends used stripespotter and identifrog on tigers and leopards. He said, it was not working well for him. I agree with you that it is a daunting task to digitise images manually. Thankfully, the population densities of "Draco dussumieri" was not high. However, I believe that manual tracing of spots would increase the accuracy of identification. It will be interesting to compare the accuracy of multiple software in identifying species with permanent patterns.
