Competing Interests

The authors of this manuscript have the following competing interests: SZ, NR, ZN and JM served under the Deepwater Horizon Unified Command in Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique (SCAT) Program and NOAA Scientific Support Team roles to the U.S. Coast Guard during the emergency response.
