Competing Interests
A patent application was filed on the content of the work presented. “Fabrication of nanopores using high electric fields”, with publication number: WO2013167955 A1, and application number: PCT/IB2013/000891). Since this study, the authors have been awarded a research grant from NSERC in collaboration with Abbott Laboratories, but that funding was not used to support the work presented here. There are currently no further patents, products in development or marketed products to declare. This does not alter the authors' adherence to all the PLOS ONE policies on sharing data and materials.
