RIDL as applied synthetic biology: combinatorial control of gene expression with defined modular control elements.

In the RIDL constructs described here, the promoter, sex-specific intron and tetracycline-repressible trans-activation mechanism (tTA or alternatives bind and activate the tetO enhancer in the absence of tetracycline Tc) act as independent control elements; logic gates which combine specific inputs (respectively Tissue/Time, Sex, Conditionality) to give predetermined logical outputs.
