A recent PLoS Medicine systematic review of qualitative research on adherence to tuberculosis treatment (Munro et al.) shows there is a need to listen more carefully to patients' own accounts of their treatment experiences. This review has prompted the writing of an editorial (PLoS Medicine Editors) on the importance of qualitative research.
