The centerpiece of our cover design is a "forest plot" generated by a meta-analysis of data. Each short horizontal line represents outcome data from an individual study included in the analysis, with the central dot being the mean and the lines themselves being the confidence intervals around that mean.

The reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses comes under the magnifying glass in this month's issue of PLoS Medicine with our publication of a paper by David Moher and colleagues, who found great variations in the quality of the reporting of this type of research.
