Matter Out of Place.
Gerrell Crichton uses digital imaging, video installation, and public performance to explore subjects such as purity, perverse memory, and little disasters. Originally from the East Coast, she has lived in San Francisco for many years and teaches Intermedia Art at the University of California Santa Cruz. Crichton's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally since 1993 in Norway, England, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. She has received grants and awards from many sources, including the Creative Work Fund, the KunsthØgskolen in Bergen, Norway, the Astraea Foundation, Art Matters, the San Francisco Arts Commission, the MacDowell Colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. The Matter Out of Place project has been supported by grants from the University of California Arts Research Institute and the University of California Santa Cruz Academic Senate.
