PGD: what???

Is it the modern times that say: okay, 6 months is long enough, grab yourself together and go on with your life?
How do you measure the loss, the pain when the love of your life dies after being together with him for 50 years? How can you say that being sad over his death for more than 6 months is a disease? My father died june 2005 and my mother is now ready to go out in the world again. But she has not been ill; it took her some time to realise that she has some more time to go and she can do activities without my father. It took me 3 years to recover, but I have a history of depressions and maybe that made me more vulnerable. I think that grieving is a very personal experience and for every single person different and not to catch in 6 months.
