The last sentence to this otherwise very sensible commentary is a non-sequitur: "A focus on individual genetic traits is a mere distraction and reinforces the popular view of obesity as a problem that individuals have to deal with, rather than one that requires societal action."

Genes vs. diet/exercise does not translate into genes vs. individual vs. societal action. The decision to adopt exercise and a prudent diet is still an individual choice.
