Many thanks for your query. As you highlight, a correction to Equation 4 was processed in August 2005 shortly after the publication of this article.

Correction: Appropriate Models for the Management of Infectious Diseases: http://www.plosmedicine.o...

PubMed Central entry for the correction: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.g...

The correction was processed prior to the annotation and commenting functionality that was introduced to the PLoS sites in 2009. This is the reason why the correction is not displayed in the same way as the 'newer' corrections posted after the introduction of this functionality.

Older corrections on the PLoS sites were processed as separate articles and were linked to the article being corrected through the 'Related Articles' box that you can see on the right hand side of this article.

As explained on our Guidelines for Notes, Comments and Corrections (http://www.plosmedicine.o...) comments and notes can now be posted directly onto an article. Corrections - after being reviewed by PLoS staff - are posted in this way and are represented by a small red triangle "cloud" within the online text.

In an effort to make the correction to Equation 4 of this article more prominent, I have annotated the relevant section of the original article to link to the correction and the PubMed Central entry for the correction.
