The response regulator WalR is phosphorylated on Asp53 by the histidine kinase WalK, leading to activation and repression of genes in the WalR regulon. WalR is also phosphorylated by the PASTA-domain-containing eSTK PrkC on Thr101 (bold dashed arrow) leading to enhanced activation or repression of genes in the WalR regulon. The eSTP PrpC decreases the amount of WalR Thr101 phosphorylation.
