Variability in S. pneumoniae

This is a very interesting article that should be followed-up by the pneumococcal community. We have shown that in a particular pneumococcal operon there is a high rate of polymorphisms, as analyzed in clinical-isolated strains (Nieto et al. (2010): PLoS ONE 5(6): e-11289. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0011289. There we showed, as in the present paper, that MLST are far more reliable than serotypes to tackle with pneumococcal classification.
