This is a very important paper detailing the oft-overlooked effect of Wolbachia on the physiology of its host. This phenomenon has been recognized in the Wolbachia community for years, but when I mention this possibility to my Drosophila-researcher colleagues, I often get a shrug. It is high time that those in the Drosophila field begin to pay attention to the potential confounding effect of Wolbachia infection on their experimental results. How many more "mutations" will have to be re-evaluated?
