There is no direct experimental evidence that the "yabK" product (herein called Fin) is an inhibitor of sigma-F. Such a function has only been suggested in ref. 38. Experiments in which sigma-F activity is monitored in the presence of YabK/Fin failed to indicate any inhibition, whereas sigma-F is higly sensitive to SpoIIAB, or to Gin/CsfB when produced in its hybrid sigma-GF form (ref. 28 and my own unpublished results). The Fin designation (contrarily to Gin) seems premature and potentially misleading.
