I have been using Unix commands for a long time and for some reason I have never come across "cut". Seems like a tool I will use in the future as I am always pulling out information from tab delimited files. Thanks.

Yes, cut is really really useful. I also came across this command comm, which prints common lines in files. Basically, if you have a lot of 'flat files' for databases, these text processing commands are really helpful.
