Dynein activity at the nuclear envelope keeps the centrosomes closely tethered to the nucleus during mitotic entry. In the absence of dynein, centrosomes and the nucleus are actively displaced to opposite sides of the cell as a result of the antagonistic activity of kinesin-1, pushing the centrosomes and the nucleus apart (see Splinter et al., e1000350).
