The image shows around 200 neurons (green) produced by a specific antennal lobe neuroblast in an adult Drosophila brain (blue). The neuronal cell bodies (asterisks) reside laterally to the antennal lobe, the primary olfactory center. Their neurites elaborate densely in the antennal lobe but also innervate additional brain regions involved in other sensory modalities. The stereotyped morphology of the lineage displays a remarkable complexity, hinting at a sophisticated developmental program. See Ni et al. (e1001420) in this issue.
